Flying and Arrival Times

Airports and airline operators show times of departures and arrivals on their websites. A very useful feature of the website for Cairns International Airport are the pages showing the flying time to a number of destinations (the time it actually takes to travel to that destination).

In this activity you are to prepare a report that shows the local arrival time at each of six different destinations, departing from Cairns.

To complete this activity you will also need to know the time zone of your destination, so that allowance can be made for gaining or losing time as you travel.

For instance, the local time in Darwin is a ½ hour behind Cairns. If you leave Cairns at 11:00 a.m. to fly to Darwin (a flying time of 2 hours and 45 minutes), it will be 1:45 p.m. Cairns time when you arrive in Darwin. This will make the local Darwin time 1:15 p.m. allowing for the ½ hour difference. In 24-hour time, 1:15 p.m. is written as 13:15.

Use headings similar to these in your report. The first one is set out as an example for you to follow.
